Chris Herren, former NBA basketball player, motivational speaker, author, and sobriety advocate gave a talk to the Shepaug community. Chris strives to educate the public on the epidemic of substance abuse while encouraging teens and people of all ages to make positive decisions and stand up to drugs and alcohol.
Family Fun Run
Kick off the summer by participating in our Family Fun Run! This PCBRW event raises money to support our cause and raise awareness.
Sponsoring School Activities
We work closely with the Shepaug schools. We provide support for activities, such as senior projects.
Prom season is notorious for car accidents due to drunk driving. We donate buses to the Shepaug school to provide safe transportation to and from prom.
The Opiod Forum is a Prevention Council hosted event to educate the community. Experts are brought in to form a panel. Previous panels have consisted of EMT employees, doctors who treat patients with addictions, members of the police force, recovery specialists/coaches, selectmen, and individuals who have successfully overcome their addictions. The panel shared their experiences and advice with the community and answered questions.
In an effort to promote healthy lifestyles, two $500 scholarships will be awarded this coming year. One will be awarded to a Shepaug Valley School student and a second to a resident from Bridgewater, Roxbury, or Washington without regard to which high school they attend. Awards are based on the student’s positive impact on the community to live a healthy life away from substances.
